SplatterDōm FAQ
SplatterDōm is microwave safe! Use the unit, just the lid, or unit and lid, to cover your dish when reheating food in the microwave. Unlike traditional microwave covers, SplatterDōm can sit on the actual dish, avoiding any spill.
If used properly as per package instructions (eg. not placed directly on a heating element or placed in direct contact with flames), SplatterDōm will not melt. It was designed to withstand temperatures of up to 450°F.
SplatterDōm 8/10″ and 10/12″ can be used on your pots and pans for anything from frying to boiling, to searing and sautéing. Use the unit, with or without the ventilated lid, or just the lid alone, to reheat your leftovers in the microwave and you can also place it on your plate with the lid on to keep your food warm. Here are some examples of what we use our units for:
– boiling pasta (Dōm on without the lid once the pasta is added)
– rice
– risotto
– boiling potatoes/eggs/beets
– soups- sautéing veggies
– oatmeal
– frying eggs
– proteins (steak/chicken/fish/bacon) — cook really well using less heat!
– sauces
Three main things to keep in mind (not really limitations, just cautions) – don’t place it in direct contact with flames or heating elements (this means the oven as well). SplatterDōm’s height should not be adjusted while on a hot cooking device and once you are done cooking, simply pick it up by the handles and place it in your sink or dishwasher. Lastly, we do not recommend keeping the lid on top of the Dōm while boiling pasta or other foods that foam and rise heavily once that food has started to boil (but you can use the lid for eggs, potatoes, and rice). Don’t worry, having the Dōm on without the lid will still keep your stovetop clean!
We found during our multiyear R&D process that cooking with SplatterDōm allows you to reduce the heat up to 20%, saving you energy while maintaining the same delicious consistency of your meals. This is mainly because of how heat has to travel through the Dōm to escape. If you currently cook foods for the crust, cook it exactly the same way using a little less heat with your SplatterDōm on, but just like before, don’t use the lid so the food won’t steam. Voila! Now you use less energy, have the same incredible meal to enjoy, and you don’t have to dread the cleanup when you’re done! Don’t be afraid to experiment!
Most brands make multiple sizes with different lines of cookware. We strongly recommend measuring the diameter of your pots/pans before buying your SplatterDōm to ensure you aren’t using, for example, an 8” pan that’s actually 7” or 9”. SplatterDōm is made to fit a wide range of sizes with its lip design. Past SplatterDōm users have commented that the following cookware brands fit:
- Cuisinart
- T-Fal
- Ninja
- Potobelo
- Zwilling J.A. Henckels
- Hexclad
- Caraway
- Emeril
- Magnalite
- Prepd
- Hand Crafts
- Crowd Cookware
- Gotham Steel
- Kitchen-Aid mixer bowls
- Tramontina
- Dalstrong
- MSNK
- And More…
We always recommend you check the diameter of your pots/pans and our size guide before buying SplatterDōm (and let us know if you use something we haven’t listed here so that we can keep our list up-to-date!)
SplatterDōm is dishwasher safe, and can also be easily washed by
hand. Do not use abrasive cleaners such as steel wool. You can also keep your SplatterDōm on top of your dirty pot/pan in the sink, fill with soapy water all the way to the top, and let everything soak! For those of us with hard water at home, because SplatterDōm is made with environmental consideration in mind, rather than adding chemicals to the surface to prevent hard water stains, we simply suggest taking a towel (paper or regular) with a splash of vinegar to the outside of your Dōm to remove those white hard water stains.
Absolutely! SplatterDōm is made out of pure FDA approved food grade silicone and is designed to withstand temperatures of up to 450F. However, your unit will get damaged if the flame is higher than necessary. Flame-kissing is when the flame is coming up too high and as a result goes around and up the side of the pot/pan. When this happens, the temperature goes well above the 450° temperature limit for silicone, since the temperature of a small flame is the same as the temperature of a big flame. While some people prefer to be extra safe and use a heat diffuser plate, so long as you are careful about your flame (less flame is also more economical and does the job right), you’ll have nothing to worry about.
This is completely normal with foods that have strong smells, and the absorbed scent shouldn’t be very strong. Soak the Dōm in vinegar and warm soapy water for 5-10 minutes, then let the Dōm dry thoroughly and the smell will dissipate. Oftentimes, just leaving the Dōm fully open after washing to air out removes much if not all of the scent.
Utensils FAQ
The utensils have been created with a thick metal core that is designed to withstand many bends. However, attempting to overbend or to create sharp edges is not recommended. There are small lines near the head of the spoon and spatula that you should not bend beyond as this is where the handle is fused, and is not a single solid piece. Everything else is fair game.
We designed the utensils with two thoughts in mind: To provide an easier reach from your SplatterDōm to your food at the bottom of a pot/pan, and to allow you to have easier/better/longer reach for flipping, stirring and serving your meals.
You can clean your utensils the same way you clean smaller utensils
— either by hand or in the dishwasher. If you don’t want to bend the spoon or spatula to fit in your utensil basket, you can lay it along your cups on the top tray without issue.
